Monteverde (August 2)

The morning was very rainy, and we stayed in the cabin, playing and sorting photos until noon, when we all headed out to the nearby Curi Cancha reserve for a two-hour walk. We heard some birds, but saw relatively few, and mostly enjoyed the forest. A cute Agouti – a large, tailless rodent – was seen relatively well in a clearing. Lilach and Daniel entered a small labyrinth, and at the end of it a coatimundi was waiting for them, while Tamar and I stayed outside, as I was trying to photograph the fleeting hummingbirds.

After the reserve, we went on a zip-lining activity around one of the high valleys. You take a cable car up to an observation tower at an elevation of about 1800 meters, and from there descend 7 zip lines, ranging in length from 300 to 750 meters. Lilach decided to skip the thrill, and only escorted the three of us to the observation tower. We were advised to leave phones (and cameras, obviously) behind, so there aren’t any pictures of the beautiful cloud forest vegetation, and the photos of us taken by the professional photographer that joined the group didn’t appeal to the children so we didn’t buy them… A meal at a nice sushi restaurant concluded a day packed with activities.
