Woods and Dumplings (August 21)

Chopsticks practice

On Sunday we had yum cha (namely, “drink tea”, also known as dim sum) lunch at the Palace Chinese Restaurant. The dumplings ranged from ok to very good. Tamar occupied herself by practicing the use of chopsticks, with some guidance from one of the waiters, and actually managed to eat a whole bowl of rice that way. Meanwhile, Daniel demonstrated his courage by trying the soft bean curd in syrup. A rough experience, it seemed…

Courage doesn’t always pay off

After lunch we headed to Ku-Ring-Gai Chase National Park, just north of Sydney. The way there was a rather amusing experience in itself. Turns out that if you drive through long tunnels, losing connection from time to time, and try to compensate for that by turning on both Google maps and Waze on two phones, navigation can be quite challenging. Add to that using two different destination points within a large park, and the result is circling endlessly at a fixed distance from the park.

But eventually we did get there, and took a nice walk through mangrove-covered mudflats, up a hill to an aboriginal site, and onto a short path in a temperate rainforest. On the way back, Lilach assembled a collection of tree bark photos.
